Default INTENSE FWI for L27

I was looking through some previous topics on the INTENSE FWI and noticed that WillWren made a comment about how the FWI would "kill" the L27. Beside the fact that the L27'* throttle body opening is too small for the FWI, how exactly would it "kill" the L27? I was under the impression that cold air with no restrictions was an excellent thing. Can someone please clarify the effects of this "death" effect and how a K&N drop in (also mentioned) would be better than the FWI for the S1 N/A.

I don't think it would "kill" your engine, i think what he is referring to is that the 3.5" tubing of the intense FWI would be a little overkill for the amount of air the L27 is flowing. If i recall correctly you wouldn't get very smooth laminar flow through the tubing and it would actually hinder performance because your MAF wouldn't be able to get proper readings. I never really modded my L27 so i can't say from experience but i think others have recommended a 3" intake for the L27 over the 3.5" that is commonly used on the L67.

It will not be laminar. Forget the fact that it won't even fit your TB.

You want laminar flow for an accurate reading by the MAF.

I gaurantee you will lose performance, foul plugs, and get crappy fuel mileage.

Ahh! Excellent information link. I didn't find that topic before. So straight uninterrupted laminar flow is absolutely key to intake performance.

I had a rice pipe on my 91 Regal GS it was 3" aluminium and worked perfect.I located the filter behind the left headlight and thermo wrapped some plexi-glass to make a heat shield.
