Does K&N have a replacement for the stock filter?
Does anyone know if you can get a K&N filter that will take the place of the stock filter in a 92 ssei? It doesn't come up on their web site. If you are going to gut your air box, I would think a good filter would be in order.
Ok let me get on the bandwagon with this brag paragraph:
Green '92 SSEI unmodified 130k miles
Repairs:
*New crank sensor (used to die at about 7 miles from a cold start, once a week or so, then start right back up. real fun diagnosis. It actually died in exactly the same place one day. Ask me if you want to know more)
*New transmission lines
*New power steering lines (the one that loops around up front as a cooler. Tough to install but it can be done, wow what an octopus)
*Replaced all rear brake tubing & proportional valves. Made new flares at rear door area. Special nuts required for front of proportional valve, ask me if you want more info.
*Replaced both front wheel bearings. It is almost impossible to tell which one is noisy.
*PFC carbon metallic brake pads.
*Bosch platinum plugs, the original style
*New Delco wires.

By itself, maybe 1mpg. Open up your airbox to help a bit more. Full intake and cone might buy you 2mpg on the freeway.
The part number posted is correct for your car.

Side note: K&N does not list a filter for 92/93. They claim the airbox design does not seal properly. They suggested to me to put a light film of grease around the sealing edge of the filter, put it in, then out and see if the grease was transferred all the way around on the box. It also comes with a foam gasket, use it. It sealed very tight for me.

No gutting on your airbox. Only the Series 2 needs to. You could cut some extra holes in the front half, and duct some hoses down behind the headlight for increased flow. I did that for awhile. Three 2" diameter hoses coming out the front of the box into the fender and behind the headlight.
