Ideally, you want it to only get cooler air from outside the engine bay, so sealed off completely works pretty well as long as you're getting lots of outside air. Note that some have used gasket material to seal against the hood instead of using a top cover.

Use a quick SEARCH on CAI and you'll find posts from plenty of folks who have done different styles.

Hey guys, there are very many detailed write-ups on types of CAI set-ups here. Everything from rice pipe adaptations (popular and straightforward) and built heat shields, to FWI (Fender Well Intakes) which work best on 2000+, to various versions of partial airbox/K&N/Flex Tubing/Rice Pipe combos.

I would guess that the reason there isn't an article in TECHINFO might be that there is more than one way to get good results and opinions and preferences are like a$$holes, everybody has one.

I did a quick search just now on "CAI" and then one on "FWI" and found tons of good write ups and info. I would suggest that anyone interested in doing this take a little time to read what things have been done already. Lots of good info available.

Here'* just a few to read. I suggest you do your own searches for more...

There are actually tons more...

Intake mods is an old article. But the new format is more user-friendly. Alot of work went into that.

Good catch! Yeah, they keep updating and adding to things. I have to remember to go back there now and then and see what is new.
