There is a light-rail train system that will take you from the airport and mall of america side of town, to downtown Minneapolis, so that might be something to help out.
There is a lot of shopping, hotels and restaurants in the Northwest suburbs, Maple Grove and around there.
You want arts/theater? Strip clubs? Casinos? Ice fishing? Snow Skiing? Lots of the outdoor attractions will be buried under snow more than likely. But it would be pretty safe to say that wherever you end up staying, there will probably be a decent bar somewhere nearby. Too hard to just say "this is where you need to go".

I'll be around, I live about 10-15 min from the mall myself, and I used to work at the NASCAR Silmulators when I was back in high school. The bars in the Mall are STILL open.....Everything is on the 3rd or 4th floor alcohol wise.....I highly recommend Gillian'*, Hooter'*, or Tony Roma'*....Depending on the atmospehre that caters best to you. I also think that there'* still a Planet Hollywood in there.
Hotels, there'* about 5 of them within walking distance of the Mall. I would stay towards the South side of the mall if it were me. It'* just a lot easier to navigate and you don't have to worry about theft so much.
Just my $.02

Nah, Planet Hollywood closed a few years ago. However, that NASCAR Simulation is pretty neat. If you like antique shopping, you're only about 20-30 minutes from Stillwater.
BTW -- IKEA has a sweet breakfast deal, it'* something like $1 for a plate full of decent food.
And if this turns into a MNBC meet, somebody needs to PM me!

Thanks for all the replies, guys. Sounds like the mall isn't that bad afterall!
If there are good places to eat and drink it won't be so bad!!!
I was thinking there was more to do in the cities... I figured you guys would reply back with "if you're in town, you have to go here......". Doesn't sound like the Twin Cities have an attaction like that!
As for snow sports, etc., I can do all that in MI. I'll just priceline a hotel on the south end of town and see what happens.
When it gets closer I'll start a new thread in the Eastern US forum to see if anyone'* game for a mini-meet.
