Calling all Twin City Folk....Help!

My wife and I are going to visit the Twin Cities the week between Christmas and New Year's. We'll likely only go for 4 days or so. My wife's draw is the Mall of America. I can't imagine hanging out there for 4 days. :sleepy: :insane: . But, what else is there to do??

Where should we stay (what region, anyway, because we'll book through Priceline)? And most importantly, what good bars are nearby?!?! And how about restaurants?

Educate me!

Maybe we'll have to get a MNBC meet together.
There are Nascar simulators at the MegaMall also.

Well, I really don't go there even though its 12 miles from my house. Malls don't interest me. In terms of a cheap motel there is one motel within 2 miles of the mall that is only $35.99 per night! The mall it off of highway 77 or Cedar, that motel is about 1-2 miles north on that road in the city of Richfield. There used to be bars in the Mall of America but they where shut down because of problems. But HEY, don't sweat it. The twin cities has bars and liqure stores EVERYWHERE. I've been all across the country and Minnesota has more bars and liqure stores than you can imagine. Truely a beautiful sight. :D

What general area do you recommend staying? North vs. South, East vs. West, etc.? As mentioned, I'll just priceline it....minimum of 3 stars on their rating system.

If you want to be close to the MegaMall, it is on the south side. anywhere around Apple Valley, Burnsville, Lakeville, Bloomington will be easily accessable. Hell, even Shokopee. That might be the cheapest. Too bad ValleyFair will be closed by then. Don't know if the horsies are running that late. Check out Canterburypark.com

You'll find decent places to stay in any part of the town. As mentioned, The Mall of America is on the south side of town. There are still good restaurants at the mall, just not so much bars/nightlife as there used to be. I guess it's hard to recommend somewhere not knowing what you'd be interested in. There is a light-rail train system that will take you from the airport and mall of america side of town, to downtown Minneapolis, so that might be something to help out.

There is a lot of shopping, hotels and restaurants in the Northwest suburbs, Maple Grove and around there.

You want arts/theater? Strip clubs? Casinos? Ice fishing? Snow Skiing? Lots of the outdoor attractions will be buried under snow more than likely. But it would be pretty safe to say that wherever you end up staying, there will probably be a decent bar somewhere nearby. Too hard to just say "this is where you need to go".
