FWI install and Evap Canister relocation ideas wanted.
Ok, I've read Wrens, Boosty'*, and Lesabreultra'* FWI install threads and wondered if anyone else has come up with another placement option for the evap canister. This would be for the 98 SSEi.
Sandrock, whatever happened with your relocation?
Also, is the Air filter just supposed to be hanging in the hole unsupported? That just didn't seem right to me.

My reloc?
I didn't reloc it. I tossed it. i have now gone to the system that is similar to W-bodies.
Lets see if I can find a pic....
You may not be able to tell where it'* at...it looks that good. Look at where the BCA is. One hose goes directly to the evap line at the tank. The other goes directly into the vac lintake at the SC. No filter at all, though that may change. It works just fine though

Here'* some pics of my install from my old 95 SSEi...
I used two bent pieces of sheet aluminum as brackets. I tucked them under the hose clamp holding the filter to the hose, and bolted them to the cannister hold down bolts. I used a small filter, and used the original cannister bucket as a splash guard after hacking the front of it away for air flow. I would recommend using a larger fillter installed from underneath, and make your own splash guard.
The cannister is held to the core support by a t-bolt hose clamp rivetted to the frame.
I had to cut one of the hard lines and pass it over the top of the radiator hose with a piece of fuel line, other wise it was being pulled dow at a bad angle.

Try searching for the bypass I did on my 98. I believe there are still pics, but basically I used a t-fitting to delete the canister and keep the rest of the system.
I'll look for old pics when I get the chance.

Ok, I've relocated things for now. I'll put them where I really want them over the winter.
I'm planing on putting the Evap canister underneath in the same area as the filter unless theres some reason not to.
The PCM is mounted like Bill Boosts but in the tray. I plan on changing that to be perpendicular to the radiator to get some better airflow around it, hopefully it will keep cooler that way. I was surprised at how warm it gets.
I must say the whine is definitely louder but sounds like crap at cold idle. I'll grab some audio in the morning. Maybe its normal; maybe its the lost rocker arm.
It was fun playing with the Intense intake hose (filter attached), different shapes and lengths produce different 'sounds'. Engine running obviously.

For me, there really is no reason to keep the cannister. The canister really only serves one purpose...to store vapors. The fuel tank can do the exact same thing. There IS, however, another small function the canister does...to keep overflow fuel from being injested (though this is an extreme case). Functionality remains the same...computer signals the solenoid to open to burn off vapors, and tank pressure is equalized (or a slight vaccuum is present).
This probably isn't the best way to go in an emissions state. Florida is one of the few places someone could get away with this. But even then, I didn't ruin the function of the evap system. Just did away with its storage. But if I HAVE to go back to a canister, I will probably go with an under-car setup, like what I saw with the Dodge Caravans (rectangular canister about midships of the vehicle).
