Shift view
I picked up a Shift View II that you wire into your dash and transmission to display which gear your actually in and if the tc is in lock up or not.
It was made for the GP crowd but I dont see why it wouldnt work in our cars?
I was thinking of mounting my display below the odometer, left of the dic?
You can find the instructions from the guy that builds them here. He also has a lot of cool wiring tips but remember all his pin#'* are for a gp not a bonne.

They're kinda tough to come by.
If you look below his shift view links you see he has them forsale in groups of 12 by preorder only. I got mine new from a guy who didnt use it, in red, you can get blue as well.

With the bigger tc I've had a hard time with knowing when it was applied or not at hiway speeds. And in some kick down applications (hills, passing) it would be handy to know if the tc was in or out and what you gear you just pulled into?

Oh I can see that now especially with the problems you've had.
By rpm and feel I meant, usually you can notice a drop in rpm or the fact that the rpm won't jump up higher instantaneously because the torque converter is locked up (just like a manual). In non lock-up mode if you give it some throttle after running at constant speed, the rpm will instantly climb a few hundred rpm higher (putting the engine into a higher hp output) as the speed picks up.
But in the case where it doesn't lock-up, the engine is turning at about 5% higher rpm than the transmission is turning and if (as in PDad'* case) you can't feel it lock-up or don't know if it'* come out of lock-up mode, you would like to have some positive way of knowing what gear and if in lock-up........before you nail the loud pedal to whine by a G35.
