Personally, I would take a 2003 SSEi if I had that kind of money to spend on one.

Easier to mod, quicker to 60mph, etc.

I love the GXP'* however.

There are at least a dozen people with GXPs on the club.

Default I based my purchase on two things

1. Cost relative to other cars with similar options
2. The wonderful reliability of my 1996 Bonnie SSE.

I've had my GXP for two weeks and love it, but I did a hell of alot of research before signing. All the cars with the Bonnie'* feature were well above $30k three of four years old or with 70k miles. That'* the Acuras, the Lexus', the VWs etc etc. I just joined this forum this evening to find out about a fog lamp problem and discovered that one of the biggest problems with the GXP (the intermediate shaft noise) I've already had fixed, so I'm not as worried as I thought. Here'* the thing: I'm on my fifth (and last) Pontiac/GM. I've had a 91 Grand Am; 93 Grand Prix; 95 Grand Prix; 96 Bonnie SSE; and now a GXP (still have the SSE). I know the issues with GMs and Pontiacs in particular. I paid less than $20k for mine with 24k miles. I know it will have issues. But I don't have $40k-50k to plunk down on a comparable car that is of higher quality. Had I purchased my GXP new at $39750 and had some of the problems these other owners have had I would be super pissed off. But I know never to buy a new GM. They always fall drastically in value and then it is not such a big deal to work out all the bugs (which they all will have - don't get me started on the 95 Grand Prix). But do know - they are maddening at times with the stupid things that go wrong. Thus far, I'll put up with those future problems to have the five things I love about my GXP: 1) the Northstar; 2) the handling; 3) the fighter pilot dash; 4) the heads-up display; 5) the best styling I've seen in any Pontiac in recent memory.

Hopefully it pans out well for you. I thought the GXP was heavily overpriced for what you got brand new. It was outclassed by everything but the Crown Vic for the price. You mention cost relative to similar options, but not necessarily similar quality, design, etc.

Hopefully your is relatively problem free!

I was wondering if a moderator could stack up the OP'* link so we can lose the side scroll?
