This only applies to all of the 3800 NA Vin K engines from 1995 to current( series II L36 )...
We have no true idea when the stove pipe was redesigned.... The upper intake went from Rochester to Delphi... I'm sure its still the same unit with a diffrent name scribbled on it...
We feel that a 180 T-Stat will increase the life of the upper intake to a certain degree, but it will still be proned to failure no matter what you do... The T-Stat replacement is in no way a cure for the intake issue... If at all it may by a little time...
There are a few that have used a diffrent stove pipe for the EGR and did a repair of the upper intake with JB weld( Good Stuff BTW ) And we are watching to see how well they hold up...
Bill Buttermore has a great writeup on this, as he did his own this way and I have yet to hear anything bad...
A small recap here,
The 1992-1994 L27 3800 TPI does not have an upper intake problem....
The 1992-2003 Supercharged 3800'* do not have an upper intake problem as the upper on these engines is the Supercharger itself...
The 1995-current series II Vin K 3800( NA'd ) is the engine that has these issues...
These is a wealth of info in techinfo about the upper intakes....
