If that whine is your water pump, it could have failed prematurely, caused poor coolant circulation, and CAUSED the upper intake failure.

That'* running rich, or a finicky catalytic converter. Might be the O2 sensor, but almost all of our cars do that from time to time.

Wondered how long that would take.
That rattle would typically be loose guts in your Catalytic Converter. Either that, or the exhaust is rattling on a heat shield somewhere.

You should be able to diagnose this one on the ground, preferably with a COLD car!

When mine did that, I just reached under with a foot and whanged it. It'* better up on ramps or blocks, though. Gives you more room. Mine sounded like a baby rattle.
