1 gallon since Sunday

of coolant that is...

car was in the shop all day tuesday and they said that it didn't use any coolant while they had it and that they could find nothing wrong.

also a high pitched whine has devolped in the past few days (sort of a high pitched "WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE")

tell me what to do and what the heck that whine is

That sound your hearing looks to me like once the cooling system pressures up it leaking at a very high pitched rate, warm your car up fully, then when u hear that sound again inspect all your hoses, and your rad, and also try turning the heat on MAX and on windshield defrost, if there is bits coolant flying in that means either a internal heater hose or your core. Check your oil and make sure its not milky if you havent already done so.
just a few suggestions

milky in color or consistency? and i am getting a whiteish/bluish smoke at idle (don't know about above idle cause i don't have anyone to rev it while i'm behind the car)

LittleHoov 09-26-2003 08:50 PM

could it be the dreaded upper intake? eeeeek!

willwren 09-26-2003 08:55 PM

The sound makes me think water pump, but the smoke makes me think intake.

i don't know where the water pump came from, my mom's shop did the work and the water pump is all of 7k miles old

Could be the upper intake..ugh.....is the oil a nice browish color or is it more or a cloudly mily solution??? Other than that i dont know. milky as in color...and that bluish smoke is usually due to oil/coolant burning off...how many miles on the engine?

58k miles, and it's a 95. i would have to say the oil is a nice brownish color.

Ooo you're almost due for one! It's like a 9 month pregnant lady who hasn't popped yet..

Um... you have not driven too far on that oil... It should still be honey or maple colored... If its any darker than you are most likely burning coolant in the combustion process, and the oil is being contaminated through Blowby... The unburned coolant/ fuel mix is getting into the oil slowly, this is a very bad issue as far as the bearings in the bottom end of the engine go... You need to have this issue resolved in the very near future... Also check and see if the oil seems more watery than usuall....Check it cold, if it seems really thin than the oil is contaminated.... A milky color will not always be present... Let me know what you find Boat...

i'd say i have 1500-2000 miles on this oil, and it was a light brown, so i guess you could call it maple. i think... oh yeah, my mom says the exhaust stinks
