Weird door lock button problem on '97 SE
All the lock actiators work fine on this car as far as lock/unlock. It'* just that when I press the drivers lock button, this weird thing happens. First press of button, nothing happens. Second press of button, 2 chimes are heard and then doors lock as normal. No issue with unlocking. I lost the remotes long ago so i can't test if this happens with remote locking. Any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated. Also, I tried battery cable disconnect -didn't solve problem.
thanks

It sounds like the delayed locking feature is activated. Im not sure how to deactivate the feature on your car but sounds like thats whats happening. Its normal. The instructions to turn off delayed locking should be in your owners manual.
Here is the instructions out of the owners manual of a 97 Bonneville to deactivate the delayed locking. If you don't have the transmitters you may be out of luck.
Delayed Locking (Option)
This feature lets the driver delay the actual locking of
the vehicle. When the power door lock switch is pressed
with the key removed from the ignition and the driver’*
door open, a chime will sound three times to signal that
the delayed locking system is active. When all doors
have been closed, the doors will lock automatically after
five seconds. If any door is opened before this, the
five-second timer will reset itself once all the doors have
been closed again.
Pressing the door lock switch twice within two seconds
will override this feature.
The delayed locking feature can be turned on or off for
each remote transmitter. Vehicles are delivered with each
remote transmitter defaulted with delayed lockinogff .
To turn the feature on:
1. Press and hold the power door lock switch
throughout this procedure. All the doors will lock.
2. Press the UNLOCK button on the remote transmitter.
The lock delay is still off and all the doors will
remain locked.
3. Press the UNLOCK button on the remote transmitter
again. Lock delay is now active and all the doors
will unlock.
4. Release the power door lock switch.
To turn this feature off, repeat the previous procedure.

Amazingly correct you are! If I press the buttun 1x, I get three chimes. Never waited the 5 seconds though. After 5secs the locks do indeed lock. Own this car since new and had no idea about this feature. Now you motivated me to order an after-market remote off e-bay.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

You need to purchase an OEM remote off ebay. They aren't that expensive. Also if you want to download a copy of your owners manual. https://www.mygmlink.com/pdf/go2cont...Bonneville.pdf

Hi,
I purchased a remote off e-bay and I do have the original owners manual, which I just read.
Says you can re-program the delayed locks without the remote. Hold the drivers door lock button down with ignition key on. Cycle headlights on/off 3 times (a 4th to reverse setting) I tried that but no response from the system.
I'll just wait until the remote arrives and after programing it, i'll try again.
My LCM -light control module is acting up, so maybe thats why I was unsuccesful.
thanks again

The headlights is a new one. I always thought you needed just the remotes or needed a DIC. On my dad'* Park Avenue and my Lacrosse Delayed Locking is programmed through the DIC.
