Default Electronic Cluster and Odometer (Mercury product)

Note to the Mods: I understand if you want to remove this thread, I am talking about a Mercury rather than a GM. I only ask this question here because I know there are extremely knowledgeable people here who may know the answer to my question.

I just replaced the electronic cluster in my 1992 Grand Marquis with one I had from a parts car. However, the odometer is now incorrect for my car. I cannot find a replaceable eeprom that I could swap, but it'* also possible I'm not looking on the right circuit board.

For now, I think my only option will be to make a note of the discrepancy in the mileage. My FSM says a sticker has to be added to the door when a cluster is replaced.

Some board require the chip to be flashed from a scan tool, while others can have the eprom removed from the old cluster and placed on the new cluster. I'm not familiar with what you car has. Hopefully we can get someone in here that knows and can give you more assistance than I am.

Ford Clusters must be installed in the vehicle., the ford scanner removes and saves the mileage info, when the new one is installed the upload the info.

it cannot be done any other way.. you will need to tell the SOS if the title is ever swapped otherwise it will throw up red flag'*.

Thanks guys!

I posted the same question on crownvic.net and got 20 views, no responses. You guys rock!

Yup, 50000km down will send red flags. I'm sure at AirCare too because they check the mileage then.

Update:

I found cold solder joints on pins 1 and 2 on the connector, the outside temperature sender and the fuel sender. Both caused trouble from time to time. They are now resoldered and pass continuity checks. I will reswap the board tonight or tomorrow and see if the problem is truely fixed.
