Default Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable are coming back 08!!

Breaking News:
Making both a bold and simple move, Ford'* North American boss Mark Fields confirmed this morning what we already knew, that the Taurus and Sable brands will be resurrected for 2008.

Fields, delivering the keynote address at the Chicago Auto Show this morning, said the Ford Five Hundred nameplate will be dropped in favor of the venerable Taurus badge. The Freestyle crossover vehicle will also be renamed the Taurus X, and Mercury Montego will switch to the Sable nameplate. All three vehicle will be introduced to the press later in the day, though we were first introduced to the new "Taurus" in Detroit...

It broke my heart when Pontiac discontinued the Bonneville and it broke my heart even more when Ford discontinued the Taurus and Sable. All three of the cars are great vehicles (we can speak up for Bonny). When I bought my car I knew I wanted a Bonneville or Taurus, I couldn't find good Taurus in my price range that was as good as the Bonny so I went with it but I still would like a Taurus. I thought it was stupid for Ford to get rid of those cars.

OK Pontiac, if Ford can do it you can too...Bring Back Bonneville!!

I wouldn't exactly call it "bold". In fact, falling back on your laurels is something of a timid gesture if I do say so myself.

They're renaming the Freestyle now? If they really think shifting names is going to turn things around they're doomed. Is the 3.5L Duratec here yet?

Oh, and petraman, there'* a reason the Taurus outsold the Lumina

Wow...we've had the Ford 500 here for a few model years, and the Freestyle is an SUV on the same platform.

I always thought it was the replacement for the Crown Victoria, and now its going back to being called a Taurus? weird....

Eh, Ford for ya..

They can't be that crappy...there are more of them on the road than any other car I can think of (in its class).

I never liked any Taurus ever made...and this new one (which is basically the 500, a Ford Focus on steroids in appearance) is very fugly IMO. The current 500 looks better.

It looks pretty ordinary to me. They have always seemed to be pretty boring and uninspiring. As far as their reliability, I'm sure it'* a good car.

This front shot is especially unattractive!

I never minded the Taurus. I would never own a Ford 3.8, but the 3.0 was a very durable motor, capable of well over 200K with nothing more than regular maintenance.

Much like the GM counterpart, the transmissions were the first to fail.

Since there were so many on the road, it was easy to find them for next to nothing, and they were cheap to insure since parts were readily available.

My first car was a 1990 Taurus LX. That baby was loaded, although none of the options worked. (windows, door locks, a/c, cruise etc all defunct)

But, I drove it for nearly three years, and I SOLD it with 220,000 miles on the original 3.0 and the original transmission.

Crazy, huh?
