Crazy Gas Gauge
hey i was drivin in my car yesterday a 97 bonneville se and i looked down for some reason at the gauge cluster and i saw my gas gauge gauge just randomly moving from 1/2 to 3/4 and then back again and then it stopped the dealer that i bought it from said to be careful because he said there was something wrong with the gas gauge.
but im just curious to what it is b/c i would like to take it back to them to get it fixed and id like to know what kinda mess im gettin myself into
thanks

The fuel sending unit in the tank is most likely failing. This is very common with these cars. Internal resistors burn out causing erratic meter movement on the fuel gage. Start using the trip meter as your fuel gage temprarily if the dealer doesn't help you.

Like the guys said, it could be either a bad sending unit in your fuel tank or a bad gauge. I'm not sure but I think the guys at the dealer can use the handheld computer (Tech 2) to check the actual reading from the sending unit versus what is showing on the gauge.
