'96 Riviera outside my work - needs help!
Someone parked their car outside my work yesterday and couldn't get it going. Today they came back and I helped them get it started (jumped it). Battery is bad, best I can tell without any tools or equipment with me.
The most noticeable thing was a BAD rattle I noticed right away, coming from the supercharged 3800 Series II motor in there. At first I thought it might be coming from the supercharger, but closer inspection makes me think it may be the harmonic balancer. Car stalls frequently according to the owner.
The women made a not so joking comment about leaving the keys in the car in the hopes that it will get stolen.
- question 1 - The rattle is really loud and seems to go away on hard acceleration in nuetral. Can anyone tell me if that sounds like the harmonic balancer or not?
- question 2 - should I see if that woman wants to sell it to me for a token amount as a fix and sell project? Opinions?
Oh, and I wasn't sure if this topic went in here or in the Lounge, so if it needs to be moved, please do so.

I just made the contact to let her know that there might be some interest in it, if she'* really just wanting to let it go for cheap. Now I wait and see...

Agree with the others on all of it. Balancer maybe took out the crank sensor. And, yeah, pick that bad boy up cheap if you can; tell the wife you got it for her.
