Default 96' Regal Heater Inlet adapter Check valve.

Just an FYI.

My 96 Regal has 242, 590. miles and I am doing the upper & lower intake gaskets again for the second time.
Also going through and fixing numerous oil leaks. I took the heater adapters off the tensioner to change out those o rings and much to my surprise there was a check valve on the inlet adapter. It fell apart upon removing the adapter. It'* only sold with the adapter which is discontinued. I went with one for a 96-99 lesabre as it'* still available for about $16.00. I removed the check valve from the new adapter and put it in the original adapter as the adapter itself is different. The GM part number is 24504476. I spent a lot of time coming to this conclusion so I thought I would post a thread about it in order to help someone out in the future. I'm not sure how important this check valve is for the heater coreand I did not want to take any chances with my heat. So if anyone has ever wondered about this check valve / reducer here is what it looks like.

I've pulled several engines apart, and either they didn't have one of those, or I just never looked that close.

So, I know this has been a long time but I am finding myself in the same situation after grabbing up a 96 regal. The check valve crumbled and fell apart when replacing the tensioner.

How did you get the check valve out of the new unit without breaking it? If you remember.

Thanks
Josh

Ya that'* been a while. I used a couple of small flat blade screw drivers, possibly 3, and carefully worked it out. Look at the pictures. See the tabs, the smaller ones towards the bottom that hold it into the adapter. You need to carefully lever those inward towards the center to release them from the adapter bore. It takes a little doing but it will come out. Just be gentle so as not to break the new plastic insert. Some wd - 40 might help to slide it out also. It definitly goes in way easier than it comes out.

Never seen one of those in my cars, of course I have not checked my 96' Park Ave yet, but my 2006 Grand Prix does not have that for sure.
