Replacing the hub assembly

Recently I've seen 3 come apart and the back end of the bearing seal needed to be tapped forward from behind. Expect that you might need a punch and hammer.

Funny. I'm doing my driver'* side front tomorrow too. At 60,000 miles? Should last longer than that. Both tie rods are shot too, and I drive her easy. My old '92 didn't lose its front bearing (strange- it was the left front too :? ) and tie rods until about 15K.

Who the crap does GM have manufacture this junk anyway?!

How'd it go? I would also expect more than 60,000 out of wheel bearings. If the seal goes out and lets dirt in and the lube out, then the bearing'* history no matter how old. Napa has lifetime warranty hubs I've gotten before for other vehicles. A dealer told me the rear hubs are lot more expensive than the fronts on our Bonne'* (both have built-in speed sensors). For future reference, AutoZone has free loaner sockets I've gotten for axle nuts and they have other specialty tools (with a deposit) if you don't want to spring for a socket that big for a single job.

It'* amazing what things have come to to keep production costs down. GM outsources things like this and I guess they are price shopping.

91 Park Ave- 134,000 miles still rolls fine. 92 Park Ave 178,000 miles-same, 85 Olds Regency 224,000 miles-rolled fine all the way to the junk yard.

And I seen close to a 100 Caprice cabs 91-95 go over 200,000 miles without a bearing incident, and when they did it was usually a dry one and whose to say what caused the seal to break(overheating brakes etc.)
