Door Panel Clips
Stinken Son of a Gun! I get in my car yesterday and go to pull the door closed and it pulls out a bit from the frame of the door, not a lot but just enough to give a bit. I've never had the door panels off but I am assuming that the issue is a couple of the clips on the inside of the panel have broken. So my question is "how do I take to panel off without damaging anything and can I pick up the clips at say pepboys or some other autoparts place? Thanks as always!

There'* plastic barbed push clips around the outside of the door, but behind the door handle itself there are 2 steel clips. I am sure they make better tools for this, but to pop all the clips loose, a plastic putty knife with the tapered edge works great to get started. I use a flat steel bar jammed in between the door panel and putty knife to pop the first couple loose. That helps avoid marking the paint up. Once you get a couple loose you can work your way around popping the rest loose with your hands. There are some pictures in this PDF that show them:

The safest way I have found to remove the door panels is to use my hands, and no tools.. For the first clip, I slid a screwdriver in to gently pry the panel from the door just enough to slip a finger or two in there, then I work my way around the panel pulling on the panel when I would encounter a clip.. I've never broken a thing yet, and the panel removal went MUCH more smoothly than when I was trying to use a tool to remove the panel.

You will also need to apply slight upward pressure on the trim panel as you work the perimeter clips out. There is a blind clip (arm rest pull cup retainer) at the area of the arm rest that will come off with the trim panel. You will need to remove that with needle nose pliers from trim panel & reinstall in plastic retainer nut on door frame prior to reinstall of trim panel. It will make more sense once you see it.

I use two thin putty knives - one on each side of the pin - then twist the knives rotating the left one counterclockwise and right one clockwise - POP!!! - there goes one. For the hidden steel clips in the middle - just pull the panel straight up after you pop the pins. Watch out for wire connectors.

The dealer charges $4 a piece for them. I found the OEM supplier for GM which is Au-ve-co. I special ordered mine through Frontier Fasteners in Fresno, CA. 559-485-2658 for $1 a piece. They only come in a box of 10. There'* 2 different sizes on each door. The back doors take 7 each (5 short and 2 long). The front doors take more (not sure how many).
Au-ve-co #19758 (short pin) Box of 10
Au-ve-co #20244 (long pin) Box of 10
