Thanks to everyone (I don't even know all of you) for what ever contribution you have made to the general information about repairing the window regulator. The TechInfo post is great and it makes it easier because I know what it looks like before I get there.

I have another question though:

Does anyone know where to get the plastic clips that hold the door panel (or the GM part number)?

Here is a photo (it consists of a male piece and a receptacle that snaps into a hole in the door and a foam washer) :



I want to get a bunch to have around. I broke the plastic receptacle on one of the retainers when I did my window regulator. I will be fixing the other rear window (as a precaution) so I want to have spares when I do it. Plus I need to fix a water leak in the passenger front door.

I've seen the male end at the local Autozone, but another member reported they checked theirs, and they didn't carry them there. I don't recall whether or not they had the female receptacle.

I had the same problem. I went to a Pontiac dealer and told him what I needed and he gave me a couple.

I have checked Auto Zone, Advanced Auto Parts, and O'Reilly Auto parts here in St. Louis and the answer is no, no, no.

These clips are really really expensive (about $5 a piece) at the dealer. Get them if you must and don't break them again Be sure to figure out the location of the clip you need on the door panel itself as there are two different sizes used. Unfortunately I don't have part #*, sorry, but the guys at the dealer can easily look it up for you as long as you tell them the location of the clip (one is short, the other longer)

I posted a reply. They are not that hard to get. You don't a need a part number. Go to your local Pontiac dealer' * parts department and tell him what you need . Take the broken one with you. Chances are he will give you a couple of them for free.

I am almost certain that my local Autozone has those. They have about 4 shelves dedicated to odd and hard to find parts, 2 of those shelves are for interior and door clips.

I got some at the dealer and here'* the kicker.... the pieces came already put together.
The male is clipped into the female. Soooooo, now I have to pop it apart (and probably break it like usual) before I can use it. Thanks Mr. Goodwrench.

you have to clip it on the door without taking it apart,then line it up in the hole and give it a smack so that it sets

Don't pull them apart, for whatever stupid reason that is how they are supposed to be. Once they are separated you might as well toss them in most cases. I work in a Body shop
& have to deal with these little pain in the arse clips almost daily. They are about one of the best holding clips out there, but also one of the biggest pains.
