If you were to remove the cover you'll see why... The cover is just that a cover... On the back side of the cover the plastic is cut out in that sqaure shape... And trust me the old style delco stereos like the one in his pic really did kick the crappp out of the speakers.. All that movement over the years has caused the dust to settle in the speaker cover... lol...

They can be removed and cleaned..
