How did the tint on your headlights affect light output? I've been wanting to do it but am not sure. Someon suggested I crack them open an put a thin coat on the reflective part.

That would probably be a better idea. Even with 55w HID'* light output was about what you would expect from stock lights. Granted, these housings suck some major balls even with HID'*.

I used it the first time I did tint last year. Light coats end up looking blue, and I had some serious issues with fading over time.
I used the Rustoleum tint on my front lights with great success. You can find it at Autozone IIRC. If you're tinting the reflectors though you may want to scuff them up and/or spray them with adhesion promoter maybe? I'm not 100% on how well that would work.
