well, it is not the best looking heat shield in the world by any means, but it does definatly work.

while it is not 100% sealed off from ALL engine heat, I did notice a difference in power from the cooler air on the 'ole *** dyno.

I have a digital read thermometer with about a 10 foot long wire for the thermocouple.
I first put the t/c on the side of the heat shield, where the filter was sucking air from before. started the car up, and the temp went from about 70* F to around 102* F at Idle. I then took it out on the road, t/c in the same place, readout in front of me, on the steering column, and the temp went up to around 130* F.

I then put the t/c in front of the filter and drove around. the temp jumped down to around 65* F.

last, I put the t/c inside the intake pipe and got a temp reading of around 75* F.( I know, I know, not the smartest idea, but I couldn't resist.... I had to know )

now I am not saying that the thermo is 100% accurate, but a difference of around 50* F is quite a big change...

Neat trick! When I built mine, I used scrap aluminum, plexi, and aluminum insulating material. Not sure on what the temps are, but it works!

Spectre piping FTW! I think you pulled it off well, I would change the color though to a flat black or something less eye catching.

I say clean the edges up and it'll look pretty good. Being off your parts car and all, I'm assuming that it'* the same color as your car and everything. Nice touch.

I think you are absolutely dumb for what you did J/K...looks good Ryan . I remember at the meet you were talking about how crappy your gas mileage was because of the lack of a heat shield. It even matches the car

I have the filter pushed up right against the core support, and was able to do this even with the BIG washer fluid tank for the windshield and headlights.


the color is the same as my car, so it does match... as far as painting it a different color like flat black... I will probably wait and get some opinions at NEBF because it looks alot different in person.

*BONUS* I think that it somehow also magnified the whine also, seems quite a bit louder now

I also forgot, I bought some of that tire shine gel stuff today, so far I like the shine it gives off, I will test it to see how long it lasts. I got the ArmorAll tire gel, Walmart didn't have the other brand you mentioned

looks good, and like you said, even if your thermometer isn't that accurate, if its reading 50 degrees different I think its helping you out a lot.
