After talking it over with Bill, my best guess is that due to the inadequate octane things got heated up pretty good in the cylinders. Even with no KR heat can do damage (weren't all the plugs a bit messy?).

Either the valve or valve guides expanded past the small stock clearance point and caused the valve to stick in the guides. If it stuck for even a fraction of a second the piston will nail it causing it to jar back against the retainer and possibly caused the valve lock to eject which then allowed the valve to fall free and get destroyed by the very hard forged piston.

This is just an educated guess however.

Hmmmm. Not what have we learned from this?

I think I'll use the Highest octane possible from now on.

Mike...what grade of fuel is in your tank currently? We might be emptying that out as well. BTW..the shocks are leaning on the back tire

Ok..now let'* get down to what you need to put the new motor together.
One keeper (I've got that)
A bunch of bolts and nuts (I've got those)
New retainers (this way they are all the same weight)
Are you keeping the stock TB or moving up to the N*?
Minimum of TB adapter, possibly TB, TB Adapter, and MAF
FWI
Set of aluminum intake gaskets
Cam install kit
New oil pan gasket (Which pan is on the L32, steel or aluminum?)
Brake cleaner (like 5 cans)
2 jugs of supertech 5 qt crappy oil
2 Mobil 1 5qt
1 Delco filter
1 gallon concentrated coolant
2 Napa gold filters 4.3L version
PCM tuned for changes from Intense (we might want to send your old one or spare soon)
Plugs
W body trans dipstick tube
there'* gotta be more..

Things to consider for the future:
Injectors.. You don't want to go below 3.4" (current) without upgrading.

While it'* apart
Want to P&P the charger? Will need a coupler and SC oil.

I'll think of more.

Those do nasty things to valves...and they're not needed on the street with cams like the XP or S1X.

Sorry to see the carnage, hope it works out for you without too much trouble.

Cheers,

Although the L67 TBs from 99+ are much better then the 96-98 I would still recommend the N* TB.
On my L32 it had a steel pan, I forget what’* on my friend’* Comp G.

Bill - when we talked about it in the garage he said it was definitely Mid-grade and probably 89 but he couldn't be sure. A 50/50 mix with 93 would make it safe to use in just about anybodys but yours.

wiat... was that a compliment?
