Default Some progress pics of the Silverado!

I really haven't posted any pictures since I bought my 2001. I think I posted some first day pics, and really haven't put up any new ones.
Not heavily modified by any means, but its a bit different.
-Bigger, new tires
-Bit of a leveling in the front so it matches the rear better
-New shocks which you can't see, obviously
-Yanked the running boards
-Equipped it for Skywarn duties (mobile weather spotter network)
-Added in my 2 Meter Ham radio rig and antenna.
-Got my official Skywarn stickers for it, so cops don't hassle me when they see me parked in the middle of nowhere, they know I'm not causing trouble.
-Ripped out the old satellite radio and its 1000+ parts and 5 miles of cables. (No wonder it was driving the electrics in the truck crazy. Some of the stuff was done well, and wires hidden clean, but the wire connections themselves were a mess!) Put in a new modern kit in the OH console.
That'* about it for now. Next up, an undercoating and bed coating (instead of the factory liner. Since this truck came from Florida, its still rust free, and I intend to try and fight off the NYS salt and cancer it causes.

I know it needs a good wash, polish and wax.. and interior cleaning. Maybe once I get back from my 1600 mile in 2 week road trip for work, then I can detail things a bit.

Yaesu FT-2900R (75 Watt 2 Meter Rig)

Command central (with most of the gear out) The phone sits center dash to give me the mobile radar. Dash still needs to be put all back in.

New Beefy Meats

Its about a 2" level using torsion keys. No clearance issues with the bigger tires now.

Huster 5/8 Wave whip 2M antenna on Firestik in-channel hood mount. The black "box" like thingy on the roof is one of my data instruments for weather monitoring. Some smaller ones are tucked in between the cab and the camper top.

Not sitting completely level on the road, so it does look a bit off...the front left is on the road, so it looks a bit less lifted than it really is.

I have 3 more of these on the truck. One large there, and two smaller ones by the front door on either side, one on the back camper shell glass.

I had to get this. So many tourists where I work have the stick figure crap on their vehicles. Seeing this in the parking lot, the look on their face is priceless!

I agree with Justin. Mount that bad boy in the center pocket. Too bad it didn't have a detachable faceplate. And with 75watts, I would opt for a mag mount on the center of the roof. You would get better results with using the roof as a ground plane.

I opted for the fender mount, mainly because it should clear drive thrus, plus we have some low hanging wires here at home.. if I drive up on the lawn, the 5/8 barely clears the lowest ones if I drive up the hill the right way. If I put anything on the roof, it will hit the wires. Plus, the Sirius antenna is on the roof, the rain gauge is on the roof, and soon I'll have a mag-mount anemometer up there too. Though, I've been tempted to get a roof rack for the camper shell, and start mounting the weather equipment to that. Next year, I'm upgrading to a Davis Vantage Vue weather setup, which will take up a lot of roof real estate, but its a much better system than the mash of stuff I have now.

I mounted the 2M where I did, because I read the reviews on the FT2900, and common consensus is that it will get hot, it has no fan, just relies on the heatsink to dissipate heat. If I mounted it in the console, it would get too hot too quick. I may buy a dual-bander in the future, which many have a remote faceplate. But this was 150, as opposed to 350 for the 2m/170cm unit next up. Its my first radio, so ya gotta cut me a bit of slack for not wanting to shell out a lot for my first adventure into 2M.
Its not as clean, but this unit needs that air circulation.
Plus, a lot of people here still use CB. I have a Midland that will fit perfectly where the old tape deck was. Then have a matching FirestikII on the opposite side of the hood.
I've seen quite a few of my Skywarn friends' 2M rigs set up like this, and they have no issues at all. It'* actually mounted to the fender, 4 screws attach it in. No problems receiving public safety transmissions from 40 miles away on simplex.

I got the sticker on amazon. Someone posted it as a picture to my FB wall at one point, and I thought about trying to find someone to make it. Turns out, there is a place on amazon making all sorts of versions of this, and some others too. Theres an alien ship, a guy with a chainsaw, but the monster truck one felt fitting. Just search for funny stick figure family decals.
