some LED modification in the 00 (7 - 800x600 pics)
I finally got my new solding iron in the mail after waiting 4 weeks from a horrible ebay seller. I had to put it to work. I changed almost all the yellow LED'* in the dash to blue. This includes:
Fog light button
Rear view Mirror
Heated seat switches
Traction Control switch
Rear Defrost button
Outside air button
Recirc air button
I am very happy with the look. I ordered the surface mount LED'* from digikey with some help from ddalder, (thanks Darcy!) and they cost about $1 each. They are pretty hard to work with considering they are only 1.6mm across, but with gently hands you can do it. I didn't take any progress pictures except for the rear view mirror. This one did NOT use a surface mount.
Here is the inside of the 00+ mirror.
Here is the circuit board flipped over
Here is what we are changing. The square green LED is a very dim light that lets you know when the mirror is in auto dim mode. I wanted this blue.
First I tried just the blue LED alone in there, and it was WAY to bright. So I took part of a big gulp cup out of the garbage and cut this small rectangle out of it and placed it in the hole
Finally I sanded the end of the blue LED so the light beam wouldn't be so directed. The final product is the perfect brightness, just enough to know its there, but not distracting.
Here is the final product
and a close up

I might be looking into changing the HUD display and the PRND321 lights in the instrument cluster also... Any other places?

steering wheel buttons don't have any amber in them, and the actual lense of the plastic is red, so a color change is basically impossible there.
they simply pull straight out. use a knife to stick between the crack and pull them out. they each have 1 electrical connection.
