I have always installed mud flaps. It protects from stone chips and keeps the splashing down and yes there is salt here in the winter. They are home made hard plastic flaps with a rubber bottom attached by a SS strip.

OH i thought it was gonna be about exhaust or something but that engine bay is bad effing ***
