Default A Project Waiting on Me

So this is the Impala that my grandfather left me when he passed. I can't remember the exact year, but I'm fairly certain it'* a 1970. It'* been sitting in that very spot for about 10 years. Whenever he would get a new vehicle, he would just park his old one somewhere in the yard and let it settle. People would always come by offering to buy them or haul them off, but he'd never sell. This particular car he would always tell them "That'* Seans car".

The way it sits, it probably doesn't have much monetary value, but it'* got alot of sentimental value to me. He used to pick me up from school in this car, take me to the park to ride my bike, etc etc. I even got in a couple of fist fights as a youngster over this car from kids making fun of me, lol. It used to look alot nicer. He was meticulous in taking are of his "driving" cars. The sitting ones, not so much. I plan to eventually get back to TN to fix it up one day, if it'* not too far gone. I'm sure it'* been home to some copperheads over the years, lol.

Just an example of another car "parked" when he was done with it - a Chevy 2. A barn actually fell on this one.

There was also an old 40s Ford or Buick or something up there, and a 40s pickup truck, but I don't have pictures of those.

Was your grandfather around during the Great Depression? If so, it'* been rumored that people from that era tend to hold onto things. As if it were an investment.

I work in the gas industry down in PA and drive around the country alot. I see many barns and often wonder just what kind of antique car is holed up in any one of those barns.

I believe that Impala would be a 1970, if I'm not mistaken. With some work (obviously), it could be brought back to showroom condition. It can be done, if you have the time & resources to get it done. If it were me, though, I'd restore it to stock (original motor, trans, etc....) just as it was when it rolled off the assembly line. Good luck with your project!

Very cool impala. A restoration to make that car like it was when it was new would do your grandfather proud.
