Default New Intake!

Finally got pics of my new home made fenderwell intake.
3.5" flex-wall tube and a K&N filter. Moved the charcoal filter up and forward against the core support to clear the hole. Used the bucket there for a splash-shield after cutting half of it away so the filter had room to breathe. It'* not the prettiest piece of work, but I dropped a quarter-second off my 1/4 mile time a few days later, so I'm happy.
Thanks to Scott Cook and Chris Green at INTENSE for finding the tube for me.
OLD RICE-PIPE

NEW FWI

The silver is a couple of brackets I made out of a pipe-hanger by hammering the crap out of it and then cutting it in half. The wire that goes down next to the tube is the lead for the IAT sensor.

Where'* your filter at? Did you block it off so it won't get soaked by water?
Another bumper/fender intake convert.

You gained 1/4 because you didn't have a shield. Looks good though, what filter did you choose?

Lookin' spiffy. How much was the INTENSE tubing? What'* it made out of? I didn't really want to go that route because i was afraid of the water going up into the filter and stuff. But your looking good there.

Will that flex tubing create turbulence or is it smooth in the inside. Looks like you can draw a ton of more air tho.

My guess is that INTENSE probably has it smooth under there. I doubt that they would have it rigid in there and cause turbulence, they know more than that.

That tubing isn't made by INTENSE, but they do sell it. It'* available at any commercial piping outlet. A-1 Coupling near me has it in all sizes from 2" up to 5", in half-inch increments. I use the same stuff for my ramair feeds. It'* very inexpensive.

Turbulence? Probably, but not nearly as much as the stock plenum tube.

It does crease on the inside curve of bends, but is so much bigger than the stock inlet size that it wouldn't matter. This thing will handle some serious flow. The wall is stiffenned with spring steel 16-guage wire spiral winding so it won't squeeze under vacuum, either. As for sucking down water, I took the old bucket for the charcoal filter, cut the front half out and used it for a splash shield. Besides the oiled K&N filters do a good job of keepingwater out of the intake, even when I do hit a large puddle. I'd hafta actually submerge the filter to do any damage to the motor. After all, I don't plan on going redneck waterskiing any time soon.
The filter is a K&N whatever they call the series with the red element, I threw the box and receipt away and don't remember the size.
Oh, yeah, the coupler at the throttle body is the same FernCo. plumbing fitting that 3/4 of us that have rice-pipes and CAI'* bought from the local Home Depot.

Actually I think I dropped the 1/4 just from having about twice as much flow as with my old rice-pipe, and the cool temps that day didn't hurt either.
