Great looking car. I wouldn't mind having one of those myself, but I don't think I'd give up my Bonne for it.

Agreed. You can at least turbo and mod the 5.3L a bit. Now if only they had put a better tranny on it...

Getting off subject, Why do you think you can't turbo the LB8 ??? As I have said its good for 6psi as it sits

The 5.3L takes mods well because you can actually get into the PCM. The N* is more of a smart engine for luxury cars. It can run without coolant and do all sots of fancy stuff. The 5.3L may be able to do that as well, not sure, but it at least has a less fancy PCM that allows modding. You can put an aftermarket LSX cam into it, as well as heads IIRC. These are about the same price as a 3800'* because there'* just one cam and there is a larger market for it. Buying four camshafts and machining heads for an LD8 is more expensive. These slight hindrances and a few others make the LS4 a little bit more delicious.

Not to mention every N* i see driving around town sounds like a John Deere and runs like crap.. i dont know why. 5.3'* just seem to be much more dependable. Do N*'* have Aluminum heads so they are easy to warp?
Which is a disappointment... Cause I am a Bonneville nut. But maybe this problem was remedied before they stuck it in a Bonneville...
remind me again why they stuck two differant motors in Such similar cars.
Im not bashing on the Bonneville GXP in anyway.. its a great car i would love to own one but i find the SSEI a better buy

The Bonneville is pretty much the Cadillac luxury liner of Pontiac while Grand Prix is meant to be a sports car like the Monte Carlo

thanks . . .althought that was some brutal honesty, tellin me my tranny id gonns go already. I havent even had it a week. But I did know that ahead of time and if it didnt have the factory powertrain package then I might have reconsidered. The paddle shifters are a lot more fun than I anticipated as well.

I researched the turbo already too. The company that makes it is called cartuning I believe. A friends brother has the impala ss, which also has the ls4 and he got the cartuning turbo installed but it wasnt timed perfectly and it blew out part of his tranny. So I am a little skeptical about that just yet, and Im sure it voids the warranty but im not sure.

Except for one minor detail, the fact that the N* does have 4 camshafts, which allows it to have 4 valves per cylinder, which allows the heads to flow much better than the 5.3L heads, so aftermarket cams wouldn't be necessary. HP per liter; 57 on the LS4, 60 on the LD8, and that'* assuming the 275hp, which is believed to be underrated considering all Cadillacs that got that same engine ran 300hp. Some think its a de-tune, and others think its a GM'* way to make the Caddy sound better for marketing purposes, similar to the way they killed the GNX because it was taking sales away from the vette. If you go by 300, its actually 65HP per liter. The PCM is the biggest killer though. Anyone who wants to do anything in a Bonne GXP has to use a custom PCM.

N*'* have had their share of faults, but the late model Northstars are extremely reliable. They have longer, coarse head studs, which prevents the head gasket failures in earlier models. Also, aluminum heads don't warp on these because of a limp mode in which the car will shut off half the cylinders if the temperature rises above a certain point to keep from overheating. Just another feature of the insane PCM that nobody can tune. As far as it sounding like crap, you must not have heard many GXP'* with aftermarket exhausts. Not as raw and meaty as the LS4, but its unmistakably a sexy sounding V8.

Not trying to spoil your fun buddy, just telling you what I tell everyone who buys one of these cars or considers it. Buy a 2008 model, or start filling a very large change jar. Consider they used the 4T65E-HD on the L67 (240hp/280tq), the 4T80E on the Northstar (275-300hp/300tq), and the 4T65E-HD with slight modifications on the LS4 (303hp/323tq). A recipe for disaster. If its of any consolation to you, I'm in the same boat as I'm almost done with a modded L67 swap in which I'll be pulling numbers close to your car.

As for voiding the warranty if you go with a turbo kit, you can always remove the turbo kit and put it back to stock before taking it in, lol. Otherwise, yeah your warranty is void. Have fun with that car, and don't think about the transmission. Enjoy it for what it is, a beastly, sexy V8 sports car.

First u stated the N* made more horsepower then u stated the LS4 made more horsepower.
I didnt mean the exhaust note sounded like crap.. i meant the sound of the motor when the N* starts going to crap like all the Cadillacs i see around town... There are several nice looking Caddy'* around town but when they drive by they sound like a tractor... Blown head gaskets, warped exhaust manifolds, ect?
