Default My babies

I am currently using a 1996 Bonneville 3.8 liter in my new ride- i took a front wheel drive engine and put it amidships

It took a lot of figuring and scratching my head- but it fits- now to make her go.

Default my ride

I was able to buy the whole wrecked bonnie for 600
a porsche trans axle would cost 2000
a Pantera Trans axle would cost 3500
then i would have to make an engine plate adapter and clutch adapter-then build a 350 chevy or a 427 and why not just go with a relaible engine that i can get parts for it anywhere and go from there? i don't have to go fast, i want to go reliable and cheap. The whole car should run me 5000 when finished and weigh 1725

Well since you're not supercharged, read this if you haven't already:

Default super charged

I have 1 1/4 inches of clearance between my rear window and the top of my engine- would a supercharger be taller than the stock 3.8 fi? AND I couldn't find a supercharged engine when i started this project- i did own a Olds 3.8, a Grand am 3.? and was told the most reliable fwd engine was a 3.8 so, I did a stupid thing?

Don't quote me on it, but I don't think so. But your transmission would be a BIG issue if you swapped in an L67. Bottom line, you'd need to do a full drivetrain swap if you want reliability as you've stated.

Edit - a well tuned L36 in a car that LIGHT will be pretty quick

Edit 2 - No, you didn't do a stupid thing at all. Fix the gasket issues, upper intake, and replace the coolant with anything but Dexcool and that engine will run forever.

Default suspension

My suspension was built around the 3.8 liter custom in my workshop. I think I am OK with what I have- i can always build another later on with a Caddynorthstar 8 cylinder when I get rich and famous.

Default info

My main reason for joining this group is that i am a dummy when it comes to upgardes of these engines and have no idea where to go for tech info, dress up kits, wiring advice and any other of a number of tech reasons. Go to the source my dad always said-

This club will be one of, if not the best, sources for this drivetrain (I might be a tad biased, but you found a GREAT resource). If you're looking to go a little faster after you get it tuned up, read this: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=91. Also check out www.intense-racing.com and www.zzperformance.com for more ideas.
