So, what would it take to swap out that cluster for one with a DIC and compass?

I'm wearing my Special Olymipcs "Volunteer" T shirt...lol.

Thanks to Black94SSEi, aka Tony for meeting me at the JY and helping get it outta the original car. Couldn't have done it w/o him.

The complete dash is actually light and fairly easy to get out with the help of Pat on the phone to tell you which bolts to pull. (til he forgets a couple )

This dash swap should have taken about 3-4 hours...BUT .. the Banditmobile had a bijillion wires and alarms running a million ways to contend with. After redoing part of the alarm, tidying up quite a bit and redoing a few other things.. we swapped Bandits wiring to the new dash. HUD hookup is about 8 wires and all of those are readily available off the cluster plug and one from the headlight switch.

A good FSM and you can do wonders. All connections are soldered and factory duct taped to ensure minutes (if not years) of service.

Bandit also swapped the steering wheel at the same time, EGR valve also (for any of you wondering about his mechanical thread).

Overall...I'd give it a 10 beer rating.

Now..if I hadn't seen/helped the infamous Randman on a couple of occasions, I'd never be doing this crap. That'* for NOTHING Randy...lol

Then.. he "test fit" the autodimming mirror with compass (we all know he needs a compass to find his way through the woods of NY) he had a look on his face.. We pulled the A pillar passenger side and hooked it up.

We even took a break for meeting a local GP guy, picking up another SC for me and dinner.

How does the HUD look on a non-HUD windshield?

Surprisingly well. I've seen Pat and Ryan'*. Both look good, clear to read. If you sit shotgun a slight glow can be detected off the windshield and if you stare at the image from the drivers seat... you can make out the slightest double/ghost image.

Honestly.. the image quality is good and nothing to worry about when considering a swap or different window from my experience.

The image quality may be drastically affected by an aftermarket windshield. We've seen that issue here.
