upstate NY and winter = LOTS of rust, they like to use salt that rust cars faster up here

They salt the roads up here, but my car doesn't have a spec of rust on it....wierd.

probably cut a deal with the car companies to use cheaper salt (only cheaper because GM and Ford offer a small kick to the salt company for selling large quanities of salt, so the salt company cuts prices to sell larger quanitities) and get a small kick from GM and Ford for using the cheaper salt (the govments would be a fool not to take advantage). end gain for GM and Ford: more new cars sold due to corrosion and people not taking care of their vehicles. after all, if a car rusts out in three years, sales go up*

yup so true, i wouldn't be suprized if that isn't what they did
