I don't recall K&N using a chrome trim ring on the end. They use black rubber. The previous post of a pic of his engine clearly showed what looks to be an APC or similar filter.

Yeah, I saw one of those at Schucks (Kragen, PartsAmerica, whatever you call it there) some time back. You can also tell by the metal mesh screen on the end of it. (not pictured, but there)
