What about the 3" tubing that'* sold at Auto Zone? It'* more flowing than pushing the air down from a 3.5" to a 3". Also, an exhaust shop can put in a 3" pipe that would work just fine, I believe.

If we're thinking of the same tubing, it ain't worth it. I assume you mean that plastic accordian tube? If so, it'* a waste of money. It'* no-where near smooth inside, and it has no insulating capacity. No to mention that it'* plastic, and it'* going ot be sitting directly above the exhaust crossover...
Metal piping is better than the plastic accordian tube, being nice and smooth inside, but it transfers a ton of heat unless you wrap it, which would take stainless tubing right back up in the neighborhood of the INTENSE unit.
The INTENSE tubing is rubber with a metal coil in it for stiffness. It'* smooth inside, even in tight bends, and it insulates pretty well. Whoever manufactures it for INTENSE must make a 3" size. But I don't think it was originally made with intakes in mind. I think Scott found it somewhere and tracked it down...

If the exhaust piping were installed, it would be very difficult to remove to clean the filter unless some removal method were thought out and put into the pipe design. The Intense tubing is easier to work with than steel, but I agree that either one is perfectly fine for a nice CAI or FWI. Also, the plastic tubing from AutoZone is what I've been using for a while now to see if it'* any good. The good news is that it works to duct air, and it hasn't shown any consequences of the heat trauma. However, it does get very warm, and air flow through it is very likely shot down quite a bit.

Me I like to take care of maintenance issues first as they will dictate the priority for my budget. Appearance issues should be limited to cleaning until most mechanicals are taken care of. Just my humble opinion.

and as for the cai
well after small reasearches in the past is aw that no manufacture makes an aftermarket CAI for the 92'*...i'll probably have to custom make it or try and find one from an other car that fits it...i'm sure some1 has already tried that... but with or without success?

FYI - I voted tint, as it'* cheap and easy to do yourself. That'* what I would do.
Then I'd do the paint issues and fix the surface rust before it gets BAD.
