Coil pack help -- '92 GP

What could burn up a coil?
I had no spark on two cylinders off the same coil. I replaced the coil with a known good one from my '93 parts car. The GP ran fine for a minute, but then it started missing badly again :? That coil burnt out also, and I once again have no spark on those two cylinders.
Can a bad plug wire burn out a coil?
only other thing I noticed is that the hole for the spark plug was full of oil, and the plug wire boot was cut all the way up, so the connection was covered with oil. Can that oil somehow cause the coil to burn up?
Could it possibly be the ICM, can that burn out a coil?
I got pretty much all the oil out of the hole for the plug, and I am going to try one more coil and hope that it works. If that one dies also, I will not try again untill I can figure out for sure what is causing this

Are you sure it'* burning out? I would check the ICM spade terminals to be sure they are engaging the coil pack. Put some dilectric grease on the terminals, then put it back on.
And yes, ICMs can go bad
EDIT - If the plug wire was grounding out, then yes...that too could cause the coil to meet an untimely death. You're not working on a 24-valver are you?

I am not %100 sure that they are burning out, but I checked the original coil per techinfo and I don't get any reading off the primary side.
I will check again and see if I get anything...
Also, I know that the ICM can go bad, but can the ICM burn out a coil?

Actually, getting the coil out and in wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. I could probably have it done in about five or ten minutes now

You may take the ICM and have it tested...
But after killing the Same coil 2 times I'd be tempted to try another ICM...
I wonder if the 3.1 and that 3.4 DOHC ICM'* are the same
