Default Another "fun button"

I just happened to be screwing around with the CTS today and found a little button marked "off" in the glove box. Pressing it turns off the stability control. I shall call it another "fun button." (In addition to the other "fun button," sport mode.) I also found I can program it to be one of the buttons on my steering wheel control. More and more I'm being convinced that Cadillac really did want this car to be driven HARD.

More aggressive shift pattern, engine management, and suspension management, I would guess. Probably some type of launch-control, too?

Sport mode raises the WOT shift point by about 400 RPM and makes the transmission shift more firmly. It also increases engine braking. (the CTS is the first GM car with engine-braking like that of a manual transmission vehicle.) It also takes a lot less throttle to get it to downshift and holds gears a lot longer. One annoying thing about it is if you were to go WOT, it holds the lowest possible gear for as long as possible for ten seconds after you let off the gas. You can see this in my video a few topics down under "CTS video with Volant" or something to that effect.

Along with the sport mode there is also a "winter driving mode." This mode starts the transmission off in third gear and doesn't allow downshifts as easily. If you press the throttle down hard it will downshift, but severely limit engine torque so that the tires don't spin. It will automatically increase throttle until it senses wheel slip, then will back off. Think of it as severe torque management, but for safety reasons on snow/ice.

Doesn't it hold that lower gear because of the engine braking? You did explain it would work like that of a manual transmission. Does it deliver the same amount of fuel though when engine braking though? Because now you just waste fuel.
