Starter Solenoid Clicks, Engine Does Not Crank
- Check the battery and starter motor terminals for corrosion or poor contact.
- Remove the INJECTOR Fuse 7 from the RH I/P Power Distribution Center to prevent the engine from starting.
- Place the ignition switch in CRANK for 15 seconds.
- Using a DVOM (multi meter), measure the voltage between the battery terminals. Is it greater then 8v? If so, battery is good. If not, replace battery.
- Using a DVOM, measure the voltage between the negative battery terminal and the engine block while the ignition switch is placed in CRANK for 15 seconds. Is the voltage less then 0.5v? If so, negative battery cable is good.
- Clean the negative battery cable connections and repeat the test.
- Still bad, replace negative battery cable.
- Using a DVOM, measure the voltage between the positive battery terminal and the starter solenoid terminal B while the ignition switch is placed in CRANK for 15 seconds. Is the voltage less then 0.5v? If so, positive battery cable is good.
- Clean the positive battery cable connections and repeat the test.
- Still bad, replace positive battery cable.
- If all other tests check out, remove starter and take it in for testing. Replace if starter is bad.
