Default upgrading 2001 SSEi to HID

Has anyone done this? What are your thoughts?

I was thinking of something like the following:

HID Xenon CONVERSION KIT H1 H3 H4 H7 H11 9005 9006 9007 - eBay (item 160320530322 end time Apr-07-09 21:48:54 PDT)

Any pitfalls or anything to watch out for?

thanks

I'm going to give this one a try before I do any HID work. Looking at these bulbs and the minor amount of moding you have to do, it'* worth the try https://www.gmforum.com/t280278/

I've bought a bunch of those ~$60 kits and I never had anything go wrong, the only extra thing you will need is an HID relay harness that way you are getting power to the balsts from teh battery and not the stock headlight wiring

here is one on Ebay HID Fuse Relay Wire Wiring Harness 9005 9006 40A 12V DC - eBay (item 250399408064 end time Apr-07-09 11:49:44 PDT)

You don't need the exact one just search HID relay harness

Then once you have them installed if you have problems with them tunring on then going out while you are cranking the car to start let me know and I can give you a diagram to disable the lights while the starter is working, hopefulle you are not afraid of cutting a wire or 2

No, definitely not afraid of wiring. I still tinker with microcontrollers and advanced electronics in my (lack of) spare time..

I did get a bit scared off after reading up on the legality of converting to HID though. It seems these drop-in replacements are by no means legal anywhere in the USA, as they don't control the light being emitted properly (pattern is wrong, aiming is wrong) - in fact in severe cases the light pattern coming out of stock headlight assemblies with (aftermarket) HID lights leaves you LESS usable light at further distances. I don't really have any desire to blind oncoming drivers or look 'cool', but I would like to see better at night - and freeing up a few amps in the electrical system allows for more stereo too - once I get to that point

Has anyone upgraded an 00+ bonnie with a proper kit? As in new headlight assemblies with HID lights to match?

1993SLE is working on a set for me, but right now 8000K are pretty bright when you are coming at them, but the sight distance is good, especially with high beams on
