Default 2 wheel drive z71. How Possible?

Days ago, a customer brought in a 2 wheel drive z71 Tahoe. I insisted her vehicle was a fake clone. Z71'* are alway off road and 4x4. 2 wheel drives are z66. So I put in a call to RK Chevy. Parts ran the Vin Number and to my shock as well as the shock of the parts department. This 2 wheeler is a z71. Its a 2008 Tahoe.

Parts says they have never heard of such a vehicle. Nor have I.

Has anyone ever come across this before? Does anyone have any explanations? My world is rocked after this bizarreness?

Thanks

CJ

Yeah, weird and rare. I always wondered if Z71 is locked to 4WD or not. It turns out that Z71 is now a trim level. Now I know.

I went poking around and found this from Autotrader:

"Since then, Chevy has offered Tahoe and Suburban Z71 versions, even with 2-wheel drive. The most recent models go further with a different front fascia design improving the approach angle."
