Coolant, stabili trak, senors
Greetings,
My engine light is on and Jake Sweeney Chevrolet in Cincinnati, OH, insists that I need a fuel pump that costs nearly $800 parts, labor, and tax. That was in February 2021 following a "near engine overhaul" due to a piston ring recall. I'm still driving the vehicle today. When I took my car in for the recall service there was no engine light on. When I took my car out following the recall service there was an engine light on, my car idles rough. and something called the stabili trak is messaged on my panel. Still no resolution by Jake Sweeney or GM.
Also, since I've had this vehicle, bought brand new, I had trouble with sensors; which hasn't always lead to a larger problem. It appears as if this car is rigged so you will take it in for repairs every time a light comes on; which I have done routinely but stopped when I became suspicious. After every oil change and tire rotation performed by Jake Sweeney Service they came up with a separate major repair.
The most recent issue I am having with my Equinox is a collant issue that I cannot locate. Anyone having this issue? There was a class action against GM regarding this issue, but my vehicle year was excluded; however, I believe it should not have been excluded.

Yeah, looks like a 2013 Equinox 4-cylinder in ediththrower'* profile.
Did they say that the check engine light is caused by something that will be fixed by replacing the fuel pump? What are the details from the service estimate that they gave you? Just because it still runs doesn't necessarily mean that they were wrong . . . it could be that this unit lasted longer than they predicted.
If you bring it in with no check-engine light on, and they give it back to you with the light on, point at it and get them to fix it. Same goes for the rough idle etc.
Are you patiently waiting for them to remember to come back to you and offer a resolution? . . . or have you been calling etc.?
Which sensors? How many times? Did they get fixed by a dealer?
Well, depending on which light, a repair is needed. If I'm getting the tone right, then I am correct in inferring that lots of lights came on and lots of repairs were needed?
I can't tell how many miles are on this vehicle, but if you have driven it at the national average (14,300/year) and your purchase was January 1 of 2013, then it would have 125,369.8 miles on it today. Assuming a regular oil change interval of 10,000 miles, I'm hearing that major repairs were recommended on this vehicle 12 times so far . . . ?!?!?
What major repairs? Were they performed? On warranty and/or out of pocket?
I am not familiar with this particular class action lawsuit. Could you share a link?
Looking at what I have typed above, it occurs to me that I could come off as attempting to defend GM etc. I'm not taking sides. In order for any of us to help further with the issues your car has been having, we need to know a lot of specific information based on your claims. I'll post a summarized question list right after this message.

This is a 2.4L 4-cylinder, not a 3.6L V6, right?
How many miles are on this car right now?
What area do you live in?
Roughly what has your oil change interval been (in miles)?
What are the details from the service estimate that they gave you that suggested replacing the fuel pump?
Are you patiently waiting for them to remember to come back to you and offer a resolution for the post-recall-repair check-engine light and rough idle? . . . or have you been calling etc.?
Which sensors have you had trouble with since new? How many times? Did they get fixed by a dealer?
How many repairs have been needed for warning lights? What were the warning lights? What were the repairs?
What were the major repairs recommended after every oil change? Were they performed? On warranty and/or out of pocket?
Could you share a link to the Chevrolet Equinox coolant loss class action lawsuit you are referring to?

Well, I think this vehicle is too problematic. I've pointed it out to both the service department at the dealership where I purchased it, and to GM all to no avail. I just thought there might be others having to same troubles and that we could do something about it collectively.

Greetings All,
Thank you for your responses. I researched my car issues and had my vehicle looked at by another master mechanic from a reputable car repair chain; therefore, I did not post my earlier comments idly. He ran a full diagnostic that confirmed that I do not need a new fuel pump, and I shared that information with the dealership and GM. They both rejected it. I have been to the dealership'* service department on numerous occasions, called, and written letters, all to no avail. So I have not sat calmly by my telephone waiting for anyone to offer me services. I have actively sought them and pointed to the problems that I am having, but was not having until after the major piston ring repair. My car has been well-maintained and I have adhered to a regular check-up schedule at the dealership since I have owned the vehicle. I appreciate that sensors are installed for good reason--to signal that something may be wrong in a car. However, sensors can go off for other reasons too--like bad batteries, damage from other repairs, not reset in the control panel after repairs. How do I know which is which if my mechanic is not honest with me, e.g., I do not need a fuel pump? The Equinox is a problematic car and GM should do something about it.
