Question 1994 Chevrolet Camaro 3.4L V6 A/C Question

Hi. A/C compressor seized, and our mechanic gave us a $2,300 quote to fix it. He had told us that, since the compressor was continually cycling before this happened, it was only a matter of time before it gave up, entirely. I guess what he failed to tell us is the amount of damage it was going to do to the entire system.

And so, basically, according to him, the car is mechanically totaled. All having to do with a failed A/C compressor. Seriously!?!

What is this mechanic up to $$$?
Get 3 quotes from Automotive Air conditioning shops for labor & parts & see if you can supply the Rock Auto parts, just a thought.

Check out Rock Auto for the pricing of the new KT1107A Kit & with compressor, condenser etc. $296.

Yeah, seems pretty steep to me. He'* probably quoting for cleaning junk out of the system and replacing the condenser, drier, and compressor. Still that'* a lot.

I agree: Shop around.

If you had the 5.7 I'd sympathize on the cost. I did one on my 1995 Roadmaster with the (almost) same engine, and it was a bear. In a B-body. I haven't done one in an F-body, but I can't imagine it is any easier.
