1) Is there currently a source for replacement balance shafts and rear bearings? If so, where? (I know P/N 12332136 was discontinued from GM)

2) If question one is a YES, Is it possible to R/R the balance shaft and change the rear bearing without removing the engine?

Unfortunate, while there is definitely a parts availability issue (items that would have a minimal failure rate), I was curious if it could be readily serviced in the car. The taper of the front bearing requires the shaft come out the front of the engine, but I don't know if it can clear the body/chassis without lowing the cradle.
I guess I'll have to go on without knowing :(

Makes me wonder what happened to damage the balance shaft and not the cam, lifters, crankshaft, cylinder walls, etc.

Ouch . . . but still damage an unloaded spinning shaft and not cam/crank/yada/yada? Hopefully 90LeSabre is looking for other damage as well.

I was just speculating. No other reason unless you had the lower manifold off and left a wrench inside and bolted **** back on and started it. THEN, that would be bad.
