Chevrolet Warranty: Please Help!!
I bought a new (well used) 2011 Chevy Cruz in February. I payed $1750 to renew my warranty to what I was told was a fresh brand new warranty. yesterday my A/C unit started failing and my water pump went out. The water pump is apparently covered by the warranty but they told me that the a/c unit isn't covered. I don't understand seeing as how I renewed my warranty and have only put 20,000 miles on the car.

I bought it from a certified general motors dealer. They told me that purchasing a new warranty would reinstate all original warranties and that the warranty would become fresh from the date I bought it.

i bought a couple cars certified used, and it doesnt matter. it has 3/36 basic, 5/100 drivetrain, i paid for the extended on my 07, and it was extending the "basic body" to 100k miles total not from when i bought it.
you can can any other dealer with your vin and ask when your inservice date and warranty coverages are.

Basic Bumber to Bunoer 3 year / 36,000 miles
Drivetrain 5 year / 100,000 miles
Roadside Assistance 5 year / 100,000 miles
Rust Thru 6 year / 100,000 miles
The A/C system is not part of the drivetrain and if they won't cover it then it had more then 36,000 miles on the car of its been more than 3 yrs since is was first sold.
What warranty they talked you into you need to find out about. There are several versions of extended warranties you can purchase.

sometimes the extended warranties that you buy have exclusions. Id contact the extended warranty company and ask them what vehicle systems are covered. I had the same issue a long while back- found out that they really didn't cover much aside from engine, transmission, transfer case, ect.. I canceled and got my money back- I figured that if I was going to spend money to fix the car- I would rather spend it on the failure that happened and not the on that "might happen".. You can cancel an extended warranty- they will prorate the refund though but in some cases that is better then nothing. Id read your warranty paperwork. good luck to you hope that it works out!

Do GM'* factory warranties work like that? I couldn't tell you, having never bought a new car, but I would bet money that they are tiered like that.
Pull out whatever documentation you have and take a good look at what'* covered. For example, the basic warranty I have covers only the parts of the engine and transmission that make the car go; if the alternator dies, I'm on my own — though thanks to a wonderful site called GM Forum, I could probably replace it myself.

Yeah, watch out for so-called extended warranties. I paid for a 80,000 mile warranty that the sales manager ASSURED me would cover the vehicle from purchase mileage of 27k FOR 80,000 miles (essentially ending at 107k).
Two months later, I receive a denial notice from the warranty company, and a few days later I received ANOTHER warranty contract, with the language changed to "up to 80,000 vehicle miles" and where my signature should be, the printed words "Signature on File."
I took all of the paperwork to the dealership, INTERRUPTED the sales manager as he was closing a sale, and demanded to know what the deal was. He told me that he had always maintained that the warranty was only good for 80,000 miles - from 0. I asked him if he had ever purchased 80,000 items that someone else had already used 27,000 of and got for free already. He then got loud, calling me an @$$, and saying for over 40 years he has sold that warranty (Bravo Sierra if you ask me!) and has never ONCE misrepresented it.
So, I called my friend, whom had not only cosigned for my '99 Intrigue, but three weeks afterwards purchased her own '99 Prizm with the same warranty. I put the call on speakerphone, and asked her what her warranty contract said. She then confirmed out loud that he pulled the same scam on her! At that point, the customers with the pending sale said they would rather take their business elsewhere, and promptly left.
Half the service department are f-ups too, but we won't get into the failed re-ring of said '99 Prizm, where upon reassembly they sealed ALL oil galleys going back to the pan so oil was pumped up to 80+ psi inside the valve cover and the engine was knocking. Nothing quite like getting a face full of hot 5W30 when you remove the oil cap! We got THREE whole miles from the dealer to where we pulled over (when the knocking started), they made us drive it back, so they could do a second rebuild on the motor. Twice they had to order bearings from Japan because it was another one of those experimental off-the-book wacky non-standard GM cars. (Kinda like my buddy'* Cavalier SS, with the Ecotec before the Ecotec was available, where he got free GM service for life).
