94 gmc electrical problem

94 gmc electrical problem
just installed a rebuilt engine and have a short from the + batt. cable to the engine block. any thoughts on how to run the thing down would be appreciated. thanks

Disconnect all cables and double check for short to ground. Possibly your alternator wire is crossed?

thanks for the suggestion, but the alternator isn't connected yet and i made sure the wires aren't grounded. ignition wire off the starter shows a short to the block. it appears the solution is to chase each circuit individually with tester until something shows up.

Do a visual check (sure you already have), if if nothing found, next you are going to have to isolate. A volt meter will be required. You will need some long wires with alligator clips. Once you get started, good chance you will find the short wire quickly. I am wondering is a positive wire was pinched while the block was installed...
