tips to improve mpg?
hey all. impy is sucking the juice lately. its 95% cruise control highway driving and only getting 25mpg. after only 402 miles, it took 16.1 gallons of gas.
other than the plugs wires and airfilter, any tips on improving her mpg?
thanks alot guys

Winter MPG is going to be different than summer MPG. It for one, your A/C is on. That'* a big factor.
Tire pressure.
Tune up.
O2 sensors. (I just changed my upstream sensor and I gained 2MPG)
Minimize weight.

no winter mpg for reference. just got the car in april. it had maybe 1 tank of the winter blend and none of the winter temps.
tire pressure is good, although it does have a bit of a shimmy over 70. wonder if theres a dragging wheelbearing. its got an abs code, but it just reads bad ground. is there anything i can do with a scanner to tell me if theres something up?
ive got a cen tech scanner thatll do live data

just went out and did the oil and rotated the tires. all the tires were at 32psi. i friggin hate to rotate tires. on a side note, i noticed her wheels are the same size as mine. i really like the impala wheels. hmmmmmm.

it wont get very good mileage the way it is, better at 35-38psi and under 70. the closer you get to 60 the better. a/c takes one or two away and the driver makes the most difference, you need to be patient and accelerate slowly

There are also basic mods you can do to boost economy, aside from normal maintenance. Stuff like a Cold Air Intake, High Flow Cat, U-Bend delete, etc.
You can usually tell what the FDR is by checking the RPO codes. Anything not a 2.84 (my guess here) and you start gaining in town acceleration, and losing highway economy at faster speeds quicker.

i just had em at 32 cause thats what the door says. as for the driver, the cruise control is the driver. lol. she goes about 100 miles on the highway per day. i dont even drive the car myself. and i end up filling it about 2 times a week. as for the 70mph number, thats the speed limit here. any slower and you get run over.

repeating the words of my father inlaw F'em. what people do around you is not your problem. but you were looking for issues and i think there are no mechanical issues, my father inlaw can get 30-32 mpg from a 96 bonnie thats been beat all its life your imp should be better in all areas. the speed and cruise arent good, neither are the tires. like he said you could get k&n drop in and i have had good luck with the e3 plugs as well. but the most effective thing at gaining mileage is one of those displays so you can see what the happy spot is speed wise. you can get torque or scangauge or any of those and display the mileage. looking at mine i can usually beat the cruise by 1 to 2 mpg. i thought about putting something in my wifes car but she wouldnt pay attention to it if i did so if its something like that i understand. she only gets 28 but i know the reason there too, she is constantly on the gas
