Chevy *-10 4.3 to 5.7 build Ver 2.0
Continuation of this thread here...https://www.gmforum.com/chevrolet-17...0-swap-304709/
I did some measuring today and discovered that my original redneck engine puller what not going to be tall enough to hold the engine high enough to clear the radiator crossmember. So, off to Autozone to get one of these...
All put together. Took about an hour. $220
Got the hood taken off so the engine will clear it on the way out.
I took the throttle body off of the 4.3 and put it on the 5.7 considering it was less sensors to move over and mine was already clean.
Slow but tedious work at pulling things off the 4.3. Some things I have to pull and immediately swap over to the 5.7.
Looks like something from a Frankenstein movie huh? Because I did my lower intake gaskets about 2 months ago, I decided to try and recover most of the coolant so I can put it in the new engine.
More stuff taken off...
I removed the distributor hoping I could get to the top 2 engine/trans mounting bolts. I could reach the left side, but not the right side.
Now that most of the top stuff was done, it was time to raise the front end up and tackle the exhaust, lower bolts, starter etc. So I got my son to help out by jacking her up. I didn't get any underneath pics because it was starting to get dark, so I ended up quitting for the night. Back at it tomorrow morning....

Hopefully I won't have to with the "fix" I did last year with the thermostat. What I did was drill a small hole in the thermostat to allow a little bit of coolant to bypass the thermostat. So instead of INSTANT 200+ degree coolant hitting a cold plastic side tank, the side tank will already be pretty close to that temp already because of the little bit of flow. Thermoshock would be the term to use here I guess.

Been a long couple of weeks of not getting much done. Gotta love this work schedule of mine. 5 on 1 off. 12-14+ hour days.
I got home early yesterday and was able to get a few things done. Like lift the engine some to remove the mounting brackets, and that was about it. Today, my day off, I was finally able to remove that one nasty trans bolt. Sorry, no really detailed pics today. It was all boring stuff.
Just a couple shots of the engine out...

It was barely drizzling all morning, then it kinda let loose right before I got it out.

Actually, I was going to turn this into a write up on how to change out the thermostat.
