need suggestions for step bars and tonneau
My son just bought a 2000 GMC Sierra with extended cab and standard size box and wants to add step bars and a soft tonneau cover. I thought I would check with our forum members who have trucks to see what they would recommend based on their experience.
Any suggestions? Anything to avoid?

cant really coment on the bars just you get what you pay for in thickness and quality before it rusts.
as far as the the bed cover, the typical vinyl one i had was difficult to use in the winter. so i had a gull wing tool box,cut the cover back and most of the time just put stuff in the tool box. that made a leak up front. it worked for me but if he uses the bed alot i would suggest one of those new plastic ones, a couple if guy at work have them, they are very durable easy to work/access etc. the vinyl one i had wore out eventually and had a tear in it

Like Justin, I had a cover on my 1991 K2500. It was brutal to put back on, especially in the winter. The slight amount of shrinkage from the weather made it a huge event to stretch the top back on. Maybe they have made major improvements since I bought mine.
Step bars are all about the quality, height and flow. Purchase a well thought out step, one that isn't in your way when you are not using it, and hopefully is bolt on. Never like drilling into a Chevy truck, they rust quick enough without the help of a new set of unplanned holes.
