Angry Diesel Engine Injector Problems

We live at high altitude(above 5000 ft) and have been having trouble when towing with our diesel Silverado. We bought this truck because of the towing capacity, and now that the 5 year warranty is up(by 10 days) we have had trouble towing our trailer. Engine goes into reduced power mode, says fuel filter capacity is 0% and will not haul our trailer. Only does this under load-drove the truck 3,000 miles after the problem first happened and it ran fine!!! Now that the warranty is over, it has done it twice more within 3 days and the dealership says it needs new injectors. 5,000 repair job that they will not pay for. Apparently, there have been lots of problems with these injectors, but why not tell the customer this so that they know to check for this? The truck only has 87,000 miles, but it is a diesel and it should be dependable for a lot longer than that! They tell me the new set of injectors will probably only last for another 100,000. Sounds like a major defect to me and should be recalled or something should be done to make them last longer. Just wanted to warn other customers if they have problems to get it looked at before the warranty is up. I have been a loyal Chevy fan and have bought probably 10 GM vehicles within the last 10-15 years. This is how my loyalty is rewarded???

Have you tried replacing the fuel filters?, if one is clogged you will get the symptoms you describe. And your truck is telling you that is has a fuel flow problem.

Tell me this is a misprint - $5000 to replace the injectors???!!!. A reputable truck shop should overhaul yours for a fraction of the price, even if you pay their time to remove and refit them.

Sounds like you need to find a new dealer too.

Roger.

Default Diesel injector problems

Yes, we have replaced the fuel filter twice in the last week-that is why we took it into the dealership for diagnostic. One filter only lasted 125 miles before it went bad. It was only while towing our trailer-we can use the truck fine for just driving-I still can't believe it should cost that much to repair!

i have a powerstroke 550 i know its not chevy but all the dealer mechanics are all the same i was taking it to the dealer the first few years and it did nothing but brake down and all they did every time i took it in is throw parts at it. thousands each time. the more they replace the more they make. i started taking it to a specialist for medium and heavy trucks, what a difference, they always have it going in a day and no where near the bills, they really know the problem and only replace that.
