Default strut extension

Has anyone ever seen or heard of a way to extend the strut piston/ shaft /rod?

you can see what I am talking about in this video:

I am trying to accomplish the same thing this guy did here.

I can't see the video since I am on my work computer and we are restricted to not accessing youtube, but rather than extend the shaft/rod why not extend the upper mount downward. Extending the rod sounds like a weak point. Extending the mount could be made quite solid.

you would have to have someone fab that threaded extention, if you know someone who has a fab shop it would be ok i think. seems easier to me to bring the mount down too. but that way you got to make sure the holes stay in the right spot for wheel alighnment
